Reflection on My Experience as a Physical Science Teacher During Internship

My internship experience as a Physical Science teacher was one of the most valuable and transformative phases of my B.Ed programme. It provided me with real classroom exposure and helped me understand the true responsibilities of a teacher beyond textbooks and theory.

During the internship, I taught topics related to Physics and Chemistry to secondary school students. Initially, I felt nervous about managing the class and delivering the content effectively. However, as the days progressed, I gained confidence in explaining concepts, especially while teaching topics such as chemical reactions, periodic classification, and basic laws of motion. I realized that proper lesson planning played a crucial role in conducting smooth and effective classes.

One of the most important lessons I learned was the importance of student engagement. Students showed more interest when I used simple examples from daily life, demonstrations, charts, and activity-based methods. I understood that science should not be taught as mere theory but as a subject connected to real-life experiences. Questioning techniques and interactive discussions helped me assess students’ understanding and encourage participation.

Classroom management was initially challenging, especially in maintaining discipline while ensuring a friendly learning environment. Gradually, I learned to balance strictness with approachability. I also understood the importance of patience, empathy, and clear communication in handling diverse learners.

Assessment and evaluation were another significant part of my internship. Preparing question papers, conducting tests, and correcting answer sheets helped me understand students’ learning gaps. It also made me realize that teaching is not complete without proper feedback and reinforcement.

This internship enhanced my communication skills, confidence, time management, and professional attitude. It helped me connect theoretical knowledge with practical teaching experience. Most importantly, it strengthened my passion for becoming a dedicated and effective Physical Science teacher.

In conclusion, my internship was not just a training period but a journey of self-discovery and professional growth. It shaped my teaching identity and prepared me to face future classroom challenges with confidence and commitment.
